Process Options
During the 20 year history of the tube hydroforming
industry, much discussion and debate has surrounded the 'proper'
process to use.
The conventional option most familiar is High
Pressure Hydroforming or HPH.
Another process that actually started production before HPH for
making structural parts is Low
Pressure Hydroforming or LPH.
A recent development is HydroDieForming
or HDF which
is able to deliver desirable benefits of each process, but is distinctly
The process used is the key to or can affect many
considerations including:
- Part functional feasibility
- Cost feasibility
- Part design features
- Material & formability
- Equipment, tool and part cost
Looking at a part for example that was not feasible
with HPH reach a totally different conclusion with HDF. The desirable
features can be achieved, but without disadvantages. This is an
important consideration since even parts that were functionally
feasible with HPH can be more economical to make with the HDF approach.
